Example of a spread bet on Gold

The Cantor Index quote on the December Gold contract is 6004 - 6014 (quoted to $0.10).

Opening bet: You think that the price of gold will rise, so you buy £5 per point at the offer price of 6014.

Your prediction turns out to be correct as after some time the price of gold has increased, so you decide to close your bet.

The new Cantor Index quote is 6123 - 6133.

Closing bet: You sell £5 per point at the new bid price of 6123.

Total profit =	(6123 - 6014) x £5
	109 x £5
	£545

However if the price of gold had fallen and our new quote was 5915 - 5925, you would have made a loss.

Total loss =	(5915 - 6014) x £5
	-99 x £5
	-£495
